Mountain Jam newcomers The Revivalists, with their N’Awlins roots, churn out the kind of funky rock that’s hip enough to get you moving, but so loaded with soul you can’t help but ease back and let the weight of the music roll over you.

Frontman David Shaw delivers his lyrics in such a way that, eyes closed, you’d swea

Dispatch, ‘Get Ready Boy (Live)’ [Listen]

More so than most bands, Dispatch have built their reputation on live performances, and on June 4, the jammy New England rockers drop 'Ain't No Trip to Cleveland Vol. 1,' a two-disc testament to their live power and eclectic sound. In advance of the release, the genre-hopping trio has premiered a live version of 'Get Ready Boy' (listen below), a particularly raucous number whose studio version appears on last year's 'Circles Around the Sun,' their first album in more than a decade.

Swear and Shake — whose founding members Adam McHeffey (banjo, vocals) and Poughkeepsie native Kari Spieler (guitar, vocals) met at SUNY Purchase just a few years ago — may only have one full album (Maple Ridge, 2012) under their figurative belts, but to call them newbies would be a mistake.

Based in Brooklyn with an indie-folk sound, the band is surprisingly accomplished considering

The Avett Brothers on Recording ‘The Carpenter,’ Working With Rick Rubin + the Reasons for the Folk-Rock Boom

As leaders of the Avett Brothers, Seth and Scott Avett have enjoyed tremendous mainstream success, particularly for musicians whose songs are rooted in traditional folk, country and bluegrass. And yet not much has changed for these siblings from Concord, N.C. Their 2009 major label debut, 'I and Love and You,' cracked the Top 20, arguably kick-starting the current folk-rock boom, but chatting with Diffuser.fm following a recent string of European tour dates, younger sibling Seth seemed reluctant to take the credit.

Like its predecessor, last year's follow-up, 'The Carpenter,' was recorded in Los Angeles with legendary producer Rick Rubin, but this time around, the brothers weren't afraid to put the down the banjos in favor of experimenting, most notably in the electric 'Paul Newman Versus the Demons.' In his conversation with Diffuser.fm, Seth discussed how fans have received 'The Carpenter' and shared his theory on why old-timey sounds are all the rage. He also extolled the benefits of being pretty and looked ahead to this year's Mountain Jam festival.
